The Iredell County Public Library is thrilled to announce its 2026 Summer Reading program, Unearth a Story. This year’s theme delves into the fascinating world of dinosaurs, fossils, and the science of discovery, offering an enriching blend of events and reading challenges for all ages. Participants can begin their adventure by picking up a reading log at any local branch or tracking their progress online with the Beanstack app beginning June 1. For full details and information on prizes, visit bit.ly/IcplSummer.

The Summer Reading program kicks off with an exciting appearance by The Critter Keeper on June 10. Join us at our library branches in Harmony (10:00 a.m.), Statesville (1:00 p.m.), or Troutman (4:00 p.m.) to meet his captivating collection of animals and learn about the ways geography and environment influence animal adaptations.

This summer also marks the return of Storytime at the Park, where children and families can enjoy free, interactive storytelling sessions at local parks. These events, perfect for preschoolers, promote a love of reading and the great outdoors.

More details are available at bit.ly/MLstorytime.

For those seeking a prehistoric adventure, the Dinosaur Scavenger Hunt begins June 1 and offers a chance to explore Iredell County’s parks through StoryWalks®. Completing your scavenger hunt card earns an extra entry in the Summer Reading grand prize drawing. Download the handout at bit.ly/icpldinos.

Summer Reading participants are also invited to join us for the Summer Reading Finale on August 3 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Jennings Park. The celebration will feature local nonprofit and educational partners, along with engaging activities and crafts for all attendees.

We invite the entire community to join us in this summer of exploration and discovery.
