Crosby Scholars Inaugural Fall Frenzy 5K Raises More Than $15,000 To Support Local Students

Iredell County Crosby Scholars inaugural Fall Frenzy 5K saw more than 160 runners and walkers completing the 3.1-mile trek Saturday, Nov. 22, with proceeds from the fundraiser totaling more than $15,000.

“We had beautiful weather and a great location at Troutman’s ESC Park,” said Iredell Crosby Scholars Executive Director Jennifer Christian. “From our amazing sponsors to the runners and walkers who participated, we’re thankful to everyone for supporting Crosby Scholars’ mission of providing career and college access to local students.”

More than 160 runners and walkers, ages 7 to 73, participated. Nathaniel Ingram won first place, completing the 5K in just 17 minutes and 23 seconds. Ryen Paul recorded the best time in the women’s category, clocking in at 21 minutes 35 seconds. Awards were also presented for the top student (age 18 and under), adult (ages 19 – 49) and master (ages 50 and up) in men’s and women’s categories. The full list of race results is below.

The Fall Frenzy 5K was organized by Iredell Crosby Scholars staff, with invaluable help from fitness professional and Crosby Scholars supporter Kristine Bienstock and board member Beth Kendall. More than a dozen volunteers, made up of Crosby Scholars students and supporters, also contributed to the event’s success.

Proceeds from the Fall Frenzy 5K will support more than 1,800 middle and high school students across Iredell County with free programming to improve student success from middle school to post high school graduation.

Crosby Scholars is a non-profit college access program that prepares students academically, financially, and personally for success from middle school to after high school graduation.  Crosby offers workshops to students in-person, at their school, and virtually to explore their path. Topics include soft skills like communication and collaboration, as well as time management and study tips. Students in 6th-12th grade can engage in fun personality profiles and career assessments, and hands-on career exploration through our “Try-it-Tuesdays” summer series. Additionally, Crosby offers free college tours (for middle and high school students), and workshops on how to create your college list, ACT/SAT test-prep sessions, coaching on how to fill out college applications, essay workshops and essay review, one-on-one advising, support with completing scholarship and financial aid applications (FAFSA), as well as scholarship opportunities and recognition for students who complete the program.

 Iredell Crosby Scholars is open to middle and high school students attending public schools in Iredell County. New registrations are open to 6th through 10th graders, but programming and support are offered through high school and beyond.
