Iredell Ready divider line

On March 21, 2023, eleven board members from both BlueCross BlueShield of NC (BCBSNC) and EducationNC (EdNC) visited the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont (BGCP) for a roundtable discussion centered on the communities of Iredell County and their collaboration to provide their citizens access to safe housing, nutritious foods, medicine, education, and resources which they consider to be the core drives of health. This was their most recent stop on their Extra Miles Tour, BCBCNC’s concerted effort to meet with community leaders in each of the 100 counties that comprise North Carolina.

The team from BCBCNC has currently logged many extra miles as they have visited 65 counties with the goal of “understanding the complex diversity of our state, to celebrate those working to improve the health and well-being of all North Carolinians, and to learn from their worthy efforts to create solutions for our toughest shared challenges.”

Dr. Tunde Sotunde, President and Chief Executive Officer of BCBSNC, shares, “The Extra Miles Tour is the perfect opportunity for Blue Cross North Carolina leadership to listen and learn from our members and the communities we are fortunate to serve. We know that the most powerful way to connect with others is to listen, and we are building relationships that will help us better serve our state.”

At the conclusion of the tour, BCBSNC and EdNC will publish a report examining and sharing common themes and unique examples of collaboration and partnerships resulting in positive community impact. Their report will be shared with business and government leaders, educational leaders (secondary and higher ed) as well as philanthropic organizations. In the interim they are sharing highlights from each of their visits at www.extramilestour.com
“We were encouraged to hear their feedback on our community as a leader in collaboration and partnerships,” shares Jenn Bosser, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Iredell Economic Development Corporation. “We are looking forward to learning from BCBCNC and EdNC and our partners across the state on best practices and how we can address the wellness, health, and prosperity of individuals in our community.”
