Mitchell Community College welcomed the community to its Statesville Campus during an Open House event held on Saturday, April 20. Throughout the day, more than 500 people attended the event including prospective students and their families, community partners, faculty and staff, alumni, and the public.

With a new take on its traditional event, Mitchell’s Spring Fest: Open House & Festival offered opportunities for individuals to learn about academic programs and student services available at the College in addition to fun festivities on campus.

Among those festivities, a trolley, sponsored by community partner, Denso, transported individuals between campus locations where attendees were able to participate in campus tours and experience program demonstrations by current Mitchell students. Mitchell’s Agribusiness Technology program offered educational activities like creating crafts with wildflower seeds while also visiting with a cow and a small goat named Half Pint. Mitchell’s Computer Integrated Machining program offered visitors a “Mitchell-manufactured” keychain made onsite, while the Welding Technology program students were available for live welding demonstrations. And Mitchell’s Culinary Arts program provided samples from its kitchen and its smoker, which was constructed as a collaborative project among Mitchell’s workforce programs.

Other activities included an on-campus job fair and a community resources area. Mitchell’s Huskins Library functioned as the event’s alumni hub with history displays and decades-old yearbooks spanning Mitchell’s history from its origin as a private college in 1852 to its present. At the day’s completion, prospective students and alumni claimed their free Spring Fest t-shirt with the option to personalize it with a tie-dye station.

Mitchell’s registration for Summer 2024 is now open. Fall 2024 registration will be available from May 2 through August 18. For more information about Mitchell’s programs, please visit: mitchellcc.edu/programs/.
